【重要】皆様に原発救済緊急要請のお願い
The first part of the note summarizes the dire situation. They point out that no group is effectively operating in the evacuation zone and that it is especially dire for the animals left stranded within that 5 km inner zone. They estimate that 70% of the animals have died, but that means 30% are still alive, but approaching death from starvation and even cannibalism.
The full text (which I clicked through to) calls for (1) 50 volunteers who can work for one day to go into the zone to get the animals, (2) 10 volunteers to be outside the zone at a designated location to wash and decontaminate the animals,... and (3) money to support the operations (with donations possible to a bank account in Japan by transfer--a very easy thing to do here in Japan, you can transfer money from bank and postal ATMs or by PayPal for those overseas or who wish to use credit card).
They don't shirk from the reality that this is an act of civil disobedience. They are taking precautions to minimize the danger from the radiation--using geiger counters and wearing gear to prevent inhaling contaminated dust. They point out that it is the sort of work that if one person spends one day doing, it minimizes the contact with radiation (my note: compared the amount of exposure that some people have subjected themselves to by going in repeatedly).
The are more or less saying this is going to be the last chance to save the pets stranded there.

この２か月半さまざまな動物愛護団体が動いてきましたが、いまだに決定的な
救済はありません。特に原発5ｋｍ以内のペットは、絶滅の危機に瀕していますが、
誰も救援しに行きません。
国も、一時帰宅での回収は僅かにしておりますが、効果が薄いのが現状です。
しかし、今でも原発中心部のは多くのペットが生き残り、飼い主を信じて自宅付近
を徘徊しております。このままでは、全てが餓死、共食いになります。
既に70％は死亡したと思われますが、まだまだ助けられる動物がいます。
早急に助けないと、もう後がありません。政府や民間運動を待っている間に絶滅
します。
募集内容
①前方部隊
福島原発立ち入り禁止区域の内部5Kmに入る意思のある方。
1～2日間勤務を休んでも日程を合わせる意思のある方。募集５０名
ただし、違法行為です。
作業中は安全を考えて、ガイガーカウンターでサポートします。
ただし、１日の作業で影響のある範囲ではありません。無害です。
②後方支援部隊
内部には入らないが、後方で、放射能除去の
為のシャンプーや犬の相手をしていただける方。
希望は１０名、1～2日間勤務を休んでも日程を合わせる意思のある方。
③資金援助部隊 参加できないが、実際に救援で必要な資金を援助していただける方。
2ｔトラック１台、捕獲器 数十、突入部隊の交通費援助等の支援。
事が緊急を要するため、皆さまの早急な参加表明をお願いします。
既に政府の部隊も動き出してはいますが、中心部は全く救済されず、
原発に近い飼い主一時帰宅の対象になりません。
誰もやらないのであれば、私たちが立ち上がるしかありません。
どうか、日本および世界の皆様、私たちに早急な支援をお願いいたします。
このミッションは、今後グループに参加した方だけにさせていただきます。
一般の方に情報を公開しない秘密グループです。寄付は受け付けますが、
日程は、実行部隊にのみ知らされます。

News about the famous 'Cat Island' (Tashirojima) which was isolated after the earthquake-tsunami disaster in NE Japan

They have re-connected parcel service delivery to the Cat Island, and the 350 people and 100 cats (and 3 dogs) have requested, rice, retort pouch food (I was thinking US Army MREs would be ideal to send if I could get a hold of some), and dry cat and dog food. I guess with 100 cats, they need quite a bit. But the catch is, there are restrictions--1/3 of every shipment can be for animals, but 2/3s has to be designated for humans.
I thought about contacting the one NPO there and asking if I could send them something I ordered from Amazon Japan or Rakuten or Yoyo market and have it shipped by Yamato. Yamato, you will love this, is known as Kuroneko Takkyubin--Blackcat Delivery!

My idea is to contact the NPO that helps to run the place and see if they could use a shipment of cat food. Overseas shipments of pet food are problematic because you need an importing license for commercial purposes to do this (and many large pet food companies have distributors here in Japan). However, I plan to mailorder at Amazon Japan or Rakuten or Yoyo Market (which can supply from Costco Japan).
